Monday, March 23, 1959 - Sunday, March 29, 1959

March 23: Dad took Cindy, Patsy and Che-che to ensemble. Joe had very, very good patrol meeting. He is really a good leader. Likty brought treats. Dick, Buddy, Dennis Likty came.

March 24: Dad took me to Dr. Rosendale who said if I don't stay in bed for a week I'll have to go to the hospital. I almost have pneumonia. So the folks took Cathy home with them. Cindy went to Naomi's where she stayed until Mrs. Stewart brought her home about 8. Had grand time.

March 25: Cindy made her bed, her lunch, dished out breakfast which Jim had cooked before, and cleaned up the kitchen before school. I stayed in bed all day. All I feel like doing is laying flat in bed.

March 26: I stayed in bed all day today. Blanche Thompson was over for a little while. Joe played after school with Bolen, Cindy with Karen Tull and Sherry.

March 27: Cindy brought Naomi home with her then Jim took both to violin lesson, then Cindy stayed overnight with Naomi.

March 28: Jim got up at 5:30 to take Joe and Cathy to dentist in Tacoma. Cathy had 5 fillings, Joe 2 and teeth cleaned. $4 for Joe, $9 for Cathy. She was so good and so proud of herself and all her fillings. She says, "Here is the 5 year old who didn't give a whimp in the dentist's office." Joe spent the rest of the day getting members for Community Club for Boy Scouts. He got 12 and worked so hard. Mrs. Stewart brought Cindy home at 3:30, saying she was very good.

March 29: Easter Sunday! I am still in bed so the folks came in at 9 a.m. and all went to Sunday School. Joe had speech as Simon to say. He did very well. Cathy was outstanding both in the way she sang the song with the other little kids and in her piece. She is very loud and clear and everybody thinks she is cute. Later, the kids went to Illahee Park for egg hunt. Joe and Cathy found four eggs, Cindy none.

Monday, March 16 - Sunday, March 22, 1959

March 16: I woke up with bad sore throat so Jim got prescription $8 for me and took Cathy to Bramwell, who said she has tonsilitis again, $6 for medicine,$3 for her. Jim stayed home with me. He fertilized the yard too. Joe had giggly patrol meeting with Buddy, Dick and Eddie.

March 17: Jim took me to Dr. Rosendale today for check-up. Kids went back to school. Joe went to First Aid class.

March 18: Jim went to work. I had an X-ray at the Health Department. Cindy went to Bluebirds after school. Joe and Mike went up to Mr. Owenby's. He passed them on First Aid for Scouts.

March 19: Cindy and Joe went to see Mrs. Selber about stamps. They are so enthusiastic about collecting stamps. Then Jim took all the boys to Scout meeting. Cathy and I got groceries.

March 20: Jim took Cathy and Cindy out to Mother's. Cindy took her violin lesson first. Mrs. Bichon thinks that Cindy has grown a lot mentally. She said Cindy has a wonderful mind.

March 21: I rested today. Jim and Joe went on Boy Scout hike. They will be gone overnight.

March 22: The folks brought the girls in. Then Dad took them roller skating. Jim & Joe returned from Camp-out at Sundown about 5. They had fine time. Joe went to Church to practice few minutes for Easter program.

March 1 to March 15, 1959

Sunday, March 1, 1959: I felt fine today. The children went to Sunday School. Then Mr. and Mrs. Bjorgen picked up Cindy and Cathy and took them out to their place.

Jim and Joe collected papers for Boy Scouts, then went out to Bjorgens. They stayed for dinner and all came home at 7:40.

She had a nice dinner for them and gave Jim some oysters. All went for a boat ride.

Monday, March 2, 1959: Cindy and I went over to Jim's mother's to pick up Cathy's gift, a dress.

Tuesday, March 3, 1959: Cathy went to Play School. At 1, Marion, Claudia , the Bell kids and Cary Jacobsen came to Cathy's birthday party. It was a beautiful day so they played outside. They rode bikes and played climbing up the ladder to the roof of the doghouse and then jumping off. This is the nicest party we have had, so quiet and happy. Mom and Dad drove in.

Wednesday, March 4, 1959: Mother and Dad gave Cathy a purse and gloves for her birthday, the Bell kids pedal pushers, and she received other toys.

Thursday, March 5, 1959: Cindy went to violin lesson, brought home a report card from Mrs. Bichon with all A's. Joe and Cindy went to a neighbors with their stamp albums. Mrs. Selber. She helps them by putting in stamps for them.

Friday, March 6, 1959: Cindy's [class] room went to telegraph office. Then we all drove out to Wollochet.

Saturday, March 7, 1959: Took Cindy to Dr. Cameron, eye doctor in Tacoma. He is so nice. He said Cindy's eyes are better and adequate for her life's work. He said she has grown so much. She is no longer a little girl.

We bought Joe some dress pants and a belt, shirt and socks for Easter. We also bought Cathy a Whisk-Off Screen like Miss Eileen on TV has.

$4 for eye checkup.

Sunday, March 8, 1959: Kim met Cindy at skating rink and came home with her.

Monday, March 9, 1959: Joe had Patrol Meeting after school as Jim must go to the Scoutmaster's tonight. The boys gathered poles from the woods for a raft. We brought Pepper [dog] home Sunday as the folks left Sunday for Angeles. Cindy went to ensemble.

Tuesday, March 10, 1959: Mrs. Haddon called to ask me to come after Cathy at Play School, as she thought that she was sick. Cathy was very upset.

Wednesday, March 11, 1959: Joe stood on a street corner for three hours to note down errors people made in driving, etc. This for a Boy Scout merit badge. Sherry came to play with the girls. Mother and Dad and Aunt Glad stopped by on their way home.

Thursday, March 12, 1959: Joe rode bike to David's. They had wonderful time. All went to Paulson's for lunch and threw mud balls at each other. Came home tired and dirty but happy.

Friday, March 13, 1959: The girls played together so nicely today. It hailed part of the day. Joe worked on his stamps, then played ball with Bob Dunner and others. Cindy prepared lunch -- daffodils, napkins and a good lunch.

Saturday, March 14, 1959: ...Cathy has tonsillitis again ... Joe had giggly patrol meeting with Buddy, Dick and Eddie.

Sunday, March 15, 1959: Harold Bowen brought his two little girls over at 9. They went to Sunday School with ours then all went roller skating. All had a wonderful time.

February 11-28, 1959

February 11: Walter came over after school and he and Cathy played snowball. They were so cute as neither came near the other. Cindy went to Bluebirds at Rhonda's. Joe played at Bruce's. Jim helped Mr. Gauthier until 1:30 a.m.

February 12: Mother and Dad came in. We bought groceries, valentines, lunch at Woolworth's, etc. Still snow on grass. Mom, Dad, Jim and Joe went to Court of Honor. The Scoutmaster said so many nice things about Joe. Joe got two merit badges, 1st Class, Leader trainer patch.

February 13: Dad took Cathy to school on his way home to Gig Harbor. Then she went to play at Claudia's, where she had a wonderful time. I took Cindy to violin and picked up Mother Reid. She stayed for dinner and spent the evening. I got up an hour early to sew Joe's badges on so he could wear his uniform to school as it is Boy Scout Week. He looks so cute. The children got valentines at School. Cindy played a solo for her room.

February 14: Sherry came over in A.M. to play with Cindy. Joe and Jim went to Scoutmasters to talk about coming hike. In evening we all went to Flints, Cathy having taken two hours nap in preparation. Children all played together nicely as usual. We stayed until 11:30. They gave us a flash camera for Jim's having have helped them [move?] so much.

February 15: Cindy and Cathy went to roller skating lesson. Jim took Joe in car to collect paper for Scout paper drive then we all worked tying and weighing them. Joe has 498 lbs.

February 16: Joe had patrol meeting. We steamed Cathy's room all night as she has cough. She didn't cough all night, consequently.

February 17: Mom and Dad came in for Mrs. Steinsager's funeral. Naomi came home with Cindy after school.

February 18: Dad and I went to Court house to record deed for little house and pay taxes, $32.00. In p.m. Cathy and I went to visit Shirley and Linda Bowen. The girls had fine time and I was hoarse after nice visit with Shirley.

February 19: I cleaned house, then Mom and Dad came in. They stayed with children at night while Jim and I went to Penny Reid's wedding, held at home of Mrs. Haynes, future mother [in-law?] of Tammy. Penny married 19 year old boy who is moving to L.A. with his parents tomorrow. Jim sang "Always" and "Lord's Prayer." Higbee officiated as Bishop. Higbee's daughter played violin solo. Tammy did most of the work for the wedding.

February 21: Saw Joe off on trip to Hurricane Ridge with Boy Scouts, then the rest of us went out to Wollochet Bay. The girls played with dolls all afternoon, sewing and ironing doll clothes.

February 22: I stayed abed today as I coughed most of the night. Jim took the girls to Bremerton to Sunday School and then roller skating. Then he picked up Joe at 6:30 p.m. at Scoutmasters and brought all back to Wollochet. Joe had wonderful time sliding down hill on inner tubes. He lost his compass , pocket knife and eating utensils.

February 23: Mr. Gauthier brought Joe's compass and knife over. Joe owed me 52 cents so he gave me 42 cents then sat down and pulled a tooth to pay for the other dime. (We give the children 10 cents for every baby tooth lost. When little we put under their pillows. I say they are from fairy. We left Cathy with grandparents Sands.

February 26: The folks brought Cathy in. She was so happy to see me. She walked in just as I was watching "Day in Court" which for some reason upsets her. I never watch it when she is here. So I turned it off.

February 27: I got new shoes for Cathy's coming birthday.

February 28: Cindy's best school friend, Naomi, invited her over so they met at Westpark School and walked from there to Naomi's.

February 9 and 10, 1959

February 9: Snow covered the ground this morning. After school, Joe played snowball with Miers [sp?], etc. Mr. Blind took Cindy to and from violin ensemble. Joe had patrol meeting. Licte served refreshments. Boys broke door window.

February 10: Snow still here. Took Cathy to school. Mrs. McKnight is in hospital so RoxAnne's mother and I helped out.

Later, Cathy and I went up to Bells and then after school Cathy played with Walter. Joe went to First Aid Meeting.

Jim put in new window. $6.

February 1 to 8, 1959

February 1: What a day! Children went to Sunday School in a.m. then Cindy and Cathy went to Roller Skating lesson, then Joe and Jim went to Scoutmasters to work on window display for Boy Scout Week. Then Joe and Cathy went to see Tonka, a Walt Disney picture while Jim and Cindy waited at Flints. Joe held Cathy's hand so would remember to take care of her, he was so engrossed in the show. They enjoyed it very much.

February 2: Jim stayed home with me today as I was sick. He and Cathy burned trash in the yard. Joe had his patrol meeting in evening. Five boys here, besides Joe. Joe gave treats, boughten cookies.

February 3: Still sick. Jim home. He took Cathy to Play School. Joe went to First Aid class with Buddy Leaver.

February 4: Salvation Army truck picked up our old mattress today and some old toys. The six remaining sheets of hardboard for Joe's room came. Cindy went to Bluebirds.

February 5: Jim and Joe and boys went to Boy Scout meeting. Cathy and I stayed home and worked today.

February 6: Took Cathy to school. Then Cindy to violin lesson. Today she changed to her 3/4 violin so gave Mrs. Bichon her 1/2 size back. Now Cindy will have her own violin. She has been using that one of Mrs. Bichon's since she started. I met Jim , we bought paint for little house then we drove out to Wollochet Bay.

February 7: Had nice pleasant day. Cindy sold her last four boxes of mints to Mother's neighbor.

February 8: After breakfast we came home from Wollochet. It was snowing slightly but did not stick. Cindy and Cathy went roller-skating. Joe, Dick, Mike, Harold and Buddy went on patrol hike. Jim worked on hardboard.
